When Michael J. Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1991, he was only 29 years old. The general public saw it as a disease that mostly affected the elderly, and many people did not understand the disease or possible treatments. Fox decided to use his platform as a celebrity to speak out about his experience, found the Michael J. Fox Foundation, and advocate for treatment studies, including the potential benefits of CBD. The Michael J. Fox foundation has supported reforming medical marijuana laws, and in an interview, Fox revealed that CBD had been a part of his regimen in managing his symptoms. “If there is anything working with CBD oil as shown in me, it’s that there is always hope, even for the hopeless.”The Mighty, https://themighty.com/2019/11/celebrity-cbd-advocates/ The Michael J. In June 2020, MJFF convened a meeting with field leaders and PD organizations, including the Parkinson’s Foundation and Parkinson’s UK. Through this workshop, attendees identified four elements of field-wide strategy for building understanding and studying cannabis use and Parkinson’s: – Encourage open discussion about cannabis use between patients and doctors– Continue “real world” research into the community’s use of and perspectives on cannabis (The cannabis survey is still open in Fox Insight.
